How to set up your first campaign?

How the setup wizard creates your first Google campaign (store, products, credit, tracking code) and how to add more campaigns.

Your first campaign is prepared by a setup wizard right after you sign up. You enter your store and products, AI builds a Google Performance Max campaign, you top up your credit and add the tracking code. It takes just a few minutes. After that, you switch on more campaigns yourself in the Campaigns section.

✅ First campaign setup wizard

  1. Enter your store. Fill in your store URL, choose the country in Where will the campaign run? and click Continue.

  2. Upload your products. Enter the URL of your Google Shopping XML product feed. To find your feed, use the Where do I find the XML feed? link or see Where to find the XML feed and where to add the tracking code, by platform. If your store runs on Shopify, click Connect Shopify store instead of entering a feed, and in the next step, Turn on tracking in Shopify, turn on tracking by clicking Save in Shopify, see Connecting Your Shopify Store.

  3. Let AI prepare your campaign. This usually takes 2 to 3 minutes. Tanganica analyses your store, imports your products and generates the ad texts and images. You will then see examples of your ads in Google Search, on YouTube and in Gmail. You can edit all texts and images at any time later. At the same time, we check that your website meets the rules of the ad platforms.

  4. Top up your ad credit. Ad credit is a prepaid budget that pays for your campaigns. Choose the credit amount, fill in your company details (they are filled in automatically from your company ID) and click Save company details. Then choose a payment method and click Pay. For how much to top up, see How much credit do we recommend to top up?

  5. Add the tracking code. Add the code to the header of your store yourself (I'll add the code myself: the app guides you through the steps and at the end you click Run test), or send it to your developer (Send the code to a developer). If your developer adds the code, test it afterwards in Settings → Tracking code. Without a working tracking code, the campaign cannot measure orders, see What is a Tanganica Pixel? Connected Shopify stores skip this step because they turned on tracking when connecting.

At the end you will see Congratulations! Your ads are on their way. Google now reviews your campaign, usually within 1–3 business days, and there is nothing you need to do. At first, the campaign is in the learning phase. How long it lasts depends mainly on the number of orders, see What is Learning phase in Campaigns?

You don't need to set a daily budget: the system manages it automatically based on performance, which is what we recommend. With Tanganica Premium you can set custom campaign budgets, see How to set custom campaign budgets.

💡 You can start the wizard on your phone too. For the product feed and tracking code steps, the app offers you a link to continue on a computer.

Launching more campaigns

After the wizard, you have one Google Performance Max campaign running. You switch on more campaigns yourself:

  1. In the left menu, click Campaigns.

  2. At the top, select the channel tab: Google, Meta, Microsoft (ads on Bing), ChatGPT Ads or Criteo.

  3. Next to the campaign you want to launch, click Launch setup wizard, add the assets (for Performance Max Images and Texts, for Text Ad Texts, for Meta Share Page and Texts) and click Finish. The app confirms with "Campaign was successfully set up and turned on." You switch on the Product Ad on Google and Microsoft directly with the toggle, it needs no assets.

Before a new campaign starts showing, it is created and approved in the ad platform, see How long does it take to launch a campaign? For connecting your Facebook page, see Campaigns on Meta (Facebook and Instagram). ChatGPT Ads and Criteo are in a test phase, you request access on their tab with the I'm interested button, see Why don't I have approved access to ChatGPT Ads or Criteo yet?

Add more campaigns gradually

We recommend starting with Google Performance Max only and adding other formats once it reaches your target COS. If Performance Max is switched on and your campaigns' COS over the last 30 days is higher than your target COS, the app warns you when you switch on another campaign with the toggle: "This campaign is not recommended to be turned on at this time." You see the same warning if no campaign is switched on and you switch on a campaign other than Google Performance Max. If you still want to continue, click Set up and turn on campaign.

Switching a campaign on or off

You switch each campaign on or off yourself in the app, separately for each channel. Switching off one channel does not affect the others.

  1. In the left menu, click Campaigns.

  2. At the top, select the channel tab: Google, Meta, Microsoft (ads on Bing), ChatGPT Ads or Criteo.

  3. Next to the campaign (for example Performance Max, Product Ad or Text Ad), click the toggle. Green means the campaign is running, gray means it is switched off. The app confirms the change with the message "Campaign has been turned off".

Want to switch off a whole channel, for example only Bing? Switch off all active campaigns on its tab.
