Connecting Your Shopify Store

The Shopify connection uploads your products to Tanganica. You add the measurement code as a custom pixel in your Shopify admin.

If your store runs on Shopify, you don't need to set up an XML feed. The Shopify connection uploads your products to Tanganica automatically. You add the measurement code (Tanganica Pixel) to Shopify as a custom pixel, following the steps below.

What the connection does

  • Products sync automatically, no XML feed needed.

  • Tracking is not set up automatically. You add the measurement code to Shopify yourself, it only takes a few minutes.

How to connect your Shopify store

Always start the connection from the Tanganica app, not from your Shopify admin.

  1. During your store setup, Tanganica detects that your store runs on Shopify and offers the Connect your Shopify store step. Click Connect Shopify store.

  2. Confirm the installation in your Shopify admin and then close the Shopify window.

If you skipped this step, you'll find the Connect Shopify store button in Settings in the Product upload section.

How to add the measurement code to Shopify

You'll find the measurement code in the app under Settings → Measurement code and copy it with Copy code. During your first store setup it is also in the Measurement code step, where you can use Send the code to a developer to e-mail it to your developer. For Shopify, always copy the code from the app. The app gives you a version adapted for Shopify; Shopify does not accept the standard code with <script> tags.

  1. In your Shopify admin, click Settings in the bottom left corner.

  2. In the settings menu, open Customer events and click Add custom pixel. Name the pixel Tanganica Pixel and confirm with Add pixel.

  3. Delete the pre-filled grey text from the field and paste in the measurement code.

  4. Save your changes with Save in the top bar, then click Connect in the top right. The pixel won't run on your store until it's connected.

  5. In the Tanganica app, go to Settings → Measurement code and click Test Pixel.

If Settings → Measurement code shows only that your store is connected and no code, copy the Shopify code from the box below and add it following the steps above. It is the same for all Shopify stores.

(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];w[l].push({'gtm.start':new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],j=d.createElement(s),dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:'';j.async=true;j.src='https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id='+i+dl;f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f);})(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-TRS5RSN');analytics.subscribe("checkout_completed", event => {
  window.dataLayer.push({
    event: "checkout_completed",
    order_id: event.data.checkout.order.id,
    price: event.data.checkout.totalPrice.amount,
    currency: event.data.checkout.currencyCode,
    items: event.data.checkout.lineItems,
  })
});

The app didn't find the code?

  • Check that the code is in Customer events and that the changes are saved.

  • Check that you connected the pixel in the last step.

  • If Shopify asks you to remove the Tanganica Pixel, don't remove it.

Stores connected before 1 October 2026

Nothing changes for you, tracking keeps running automatically. We'll let you know when the measurement code needs to be moved to a custom pixel.
