The tracking code (Tanganica Pixel) lets you monitor ad performance, get detailed statistics, and unlock extra features. Here’s how to set it up in Google Tag Manager (GTM):

📷 Step-by-step guide with screenshots: Install the tracking code via Google Tag Manager. You can also send this link to your developer.

1. Check your GTM container

  • Log in to Google Tag Manager.

  • If you already have a container for your store, use it.

  • If not, create one (Account → New container → enter store URL → select Web → save).

  • GTM will give you 2 code snippets → place the first in <head>, the second right after <body> on your website.

2. Add the Tanganica Pixel tag

  • In GTM, go to Tags → New.

  • Name it Tanganica Pixel.

  • Choose Tag configuration → Custom HTML.

  • Paste the Tanganica tracking code.

<!-- Tanganica pixel -->

<script>(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];

w[l].push({'gtm.start':new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});

var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],j=d.createElement(s),

dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:'';j.async=true;

f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f);

})(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-TRS5RSN');</script>

<!-- End Tanganica pixel -->

  • Set the Trigger → All Pages.

  • Save.

3. Publish changes

  • Click Submit → name the version (e.g., Tanganica Pixel added) → Publish.

❗ After publishing, click Run the test at the end of the Add the tracking code step in the setup guide. Your store opens in a new window and you can close it after a few seconds. After you finish the guide, you can also run the test in Settings → Tracking code.

⚡ Does the Tanganica Pixel slow down your website?

The Tanganica tracking code loads our own container GTM-TRS5RSN. It contains only the Tanganica Pixel and loads asynchronously, so the browser does not pause loading your page because of it. There is therefore nothing to change or optimize inside the container.

That does not mean zero impact. The browser still has to download and run the script, so on a slow connection it can compete with your page content for bandwidth and device performance.

For faster page display (LCP), Google mainly recommends changes on your website. LCP measures when the largest image or text block in the visible part of the page is displayed, typically the main image:

  • Give the main image at the top of the page the fetchpriority="high" attribute so the browser downloads it first.

  • Do not lazy-load the main image, so leave out the loading="lazy" attribute.

You can check your website speed directly in Tanganica in the Diagnostics section.

Troubleshooting if Pixel is not detected:

  • Make sure changes are published in GTM.

  • Verify the GTM container is installed on your site.

  • Confirm the trigger is set to All Pages.

  • Check that your online store pages are loading correctly.
